Botulinum Toxin

Normal facial expression leads to constant muscle movement. This causes the overlying skin to lose it’s elasticity resulting in the formation of frown lines and wrinkles.

To treat and prevent the development of frown lines and wrinkles, Botulinum Toxin type A is injected into the target area to block the nerve impulse from activating the muscle contractions. This results in a smoother relaxed skin.

Most patients see an improvement within three to five days and the results last up to five months, although results may vary.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers, as the name suggests, is used to fill and restore volume-loss in facial areas. It is a temporary  procedure with immediate results.

Used to soften facial wrinkles, plump lips and fill out recessed facial areas.

Fillers work by adding small amounts of volume along the crease or depressions in different skin depths depending on the area of volume loss.

This volume plumps up the skin and reduces or eliminates the recessed area/crease.

How do dermal fillers work?

At Clear Aesthetics we use fillers containing Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occurring, hydrating substance found in your skin. As you age, you start to lose HA, which causes the skin to lose structure and volume.

Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Once injected, the gel in the filler supports and shapes the tissues of the lips.

The benefits of using hyaluronic acid fillers include:

• Control over lip volume. The amount of substance injected can be controlled, so the doctor has better control over how much lip volume is created.
• Gradual pace of treatment. The injections can be given gradually during different appointments until the desired results are achieved.
• Bumps dissolve easily. Any lumps and bumps created by movement of the lips can be dissolved easily.
• Less bruising. There may be less bruising and swelling compared to other dermal fillers.
• Reasonably lasting results. The results are reasonably long-lasting, but not permanent.
• Allergic reaction unlikely. Because hyaluronic acid fillers are made from substances similar to those found in the body, they are unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. But if you are allergic to lidocaine, tell your doctor before being treated.

Dr Smit is an accredited Silhouette Soft®  Aesthetic Practitioner. Using a bidirectional coned suture to achieve a double action of immediate repositioning of the tissue and a gradual regeneration of collagen. This effect of skin restoration not only leads to a smoother more toned skin, but also to more shapely contours.

Silhouette Soft® monofilaments are made of Polylactic acid while the cones are made of L-lactic acid (82%) and glycolic copolymer (18%).

These components are totally resorbable in 8-12 months for the cones and 18-24 months for the suture.

The regenerating effect is gradual: Poly L-lactic acid (PLLA), the principal component of Silhouette Soft® is a well-known polymer that has been used for many years in a number of biomedical and pharmaceutical applications: suture thread, orthopedic pins, rods, screws and nails for bone fractures. It is because this polymer shows excellent biocompatability and is biodegradable that such applications have been developed.

The small cones on the Silhouette Soft® Suture provide traction and fixation points, a natural foreign body reaction then reinforces this, by the build-up of new collagen formation. This action is what helps restore shapeliness to the face and neck.

Micro Needling

Micro Needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, allows for a controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair mechanism by creating micro ‘injuries’ to the skin, therefore stimulating your skin’s own collagen production to reduce appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretchmarks, skin laxity as well as scarring.

The high-speed motion of the needling system minimises pain and discomfort, while better promoting an even absorption of topical acids and peptides into the skin, which enhances the overall result.

A topical anaesthetic is applied 30min prior in preparation for the treatment.
The treatment can take from 40minutes to an hour depending on the areas being treated.
Best results are shown over a period of 3-9months as it takes up to 90days for your skin’s collagen and elastin’s remodelling to take place.

Therefore, it is advisable for our clients to come in for more than one session to achieve maximum results.

One can typically start to see a result after the first treatment, however lasting and more significant results will occur after 4-6 treatments (spaced 4-6 weeks apart) Your skin will continue to improve over time after a course of treatments as well as with the benefits of proper homecare.

What can you expect after a treatment?

• Skin will be pink/red in appearance and can last from 1-3 days
• Skin might feel like it has a minor sunburn feeling
• Pin point bleeding can be expected but not always, depending on aggressiveness during procedure.
• Slight swelling can also be expected and should subside within 12-24hours
• Bruising might also occur depending on person to person due to skin texture

Is this a superficial, medium or deep peel?

Superficial to Medium depth peel.

It visibly diminishes the look of fine lines and wrinkles, smoothes and softens skin, increases hydration and suppleness, and balances irregular skin tones. It can also improve oily/acne prone skin.
Higher strengths can help to reduce the appearance of acne scarring and certain pigmentation problems.

Peel program

The NeoStrata Skin Rejuvenation System is a glycolic acid peel system that can only be performed as an in-office procedure by a trained professional. Reported side effects

Most patients can undergo glycolic peeling without any side effects. The treated skin is virtually normal in appearance. The fact that the patient underwent a peel in usually undetectable to others. Although rare, a patient may experience mild sloughing, producing some weeping or scabbing. Some redness is temporary and normal. Any of these side effects may be covered with make up.

Rarely, if scabs are picked, scarring may occur or areas of hypopigmentation (lighter coloured skin) or hyperpigmentation (darker coloured skin) may result from a peel.

EASY TCA

Indications:

Photo ageing and its consequences, acne and post acne pigmentation problems (melasma, chloasma, postinflamatory hyperpigmentation) ichtyosis, keratoses and letigines.

How is the Skin-Tech TCA peel performed?

Prior to the TCA treatment, the skin is cleansed and disinfected with a light scrub. The appropriate concentration of TCA is evenly applied with a sterile applicator until the necessary depth is reached. Patients report a slightly stinging but brief sensation as the solution is applied.

The chosen peel solution then causes the layer of skin to separate and peel off. The new regenerated skin underneath is usually smoother, less aged and more even in both tone and colour than the old skin cells that have accumulated at the surface over time. Now you can understand why TCA peels are in such high demand!

Recovery from TCA peels depends on two important factors- the concentration of TCA used and also the site of treatment.

The Radiance Peel

Is a combination of Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid as well as calming ingredients such as Willow Bark and Liquorice Root.
This gentle peel works by loosening dead cells on the top layers of the outermost epidermal layer. Therefore, allowing for better peeling and exfoliation of one’s skin.

The increase of exfoliation helps to stimulate the turnover of cell production with in your skin, resulting in a much smoother, healthier looking skin.
Because of the salicylic acid present in the peel, it also acts as an antimicrobial on your skin. IE: an agent that kills microorganisms or inhibits their growth. Making it highly effective for Acne.

A course of 4-6 peels is recommended to receive optimum results. Minimum of 2 weeks apart.
